Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku What's it about? Wakatake Mari is a home-schooled girl who completely lost her memory five years ago when her parents died in a tragedy on Kamioki Island. Against her will, she is enrolled in a private girl's boarding school, where she meets class representative Senkouji Hagino, who just might be the key to unlock her past. Blue Drop is, in pretty equal parts, a school life anime about making friends, a mystery about uncovering the dark secrets of Mari's past, a sci-fi piece about aliens, and a romance involving two high school girls. While this is not necessarily executed flawlessly, it at least does so in a highly entertaining and realistic way. Obviously a girl in a flock of seagulls is very romantic. So what's so good about it? Uh, besides the yuri? (I kid, I kid.) Blue Drop's animation style and music are pretty good, but what makes this anime shine is its characters. Mari is bratty and unaware of culture norms, which leads to her defying authority, dropping honorifics, and getting into fights on her first day. Senkouji Hagino is the less flirtatious Fujino Shizuru of their dorm, surrounded by fangirls and prone to getting her way. She also houses a secret - she is the commander of alien ship Blue. But more than that, the supporting characters are excellent as well. Michiko is a shy girl looking towards a future in writing that learns to come out of her shell. Akane is a rebellious tomboy who is trying to learn to love her father. Funat...
